MUSEXPO REVIEW

Often described as “Hank Williams and Link Wray on peyote,” Derek Miller made me walk into the Whiskey Room with a smile on my face. Miller was definitely a musician I was looking forward to that night ever since I found out he had recorded an album with Double Trouble of the Stevie Ray Vaughan fame. It’s been a while since I took out any Double Trouble records out for a spin, but Derek Miller’s first song automatically made up for that lost time. Dressed in a pin-stripped vest and pants over a sharp silver button down shirt and tie, Miller was melting my face off with his intricate guitar licks and his gritty vocals. There will always be a soft spot in my heart for the gritty blues-rock, and his set was definitely giving me flashbacks to late high school evenings when I was doing things my parents would never have allowed me to do. The highlightS of his set were absolutely “Devil Came Down Sunday” and “Girls.” >> ORIGINAL STORY
